Walk along the Séran River between the Cerveyrieu Waterfall and the Thurignin Gorges

This family-friendly hike follows the Séran River from the Cerveyrieu Waterfall to the Thurignin Gorges along a mostly shaded trail that runs alongside the river. The route takes you first to a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the waterfall, which is about sixty meters high, and then up to the gorges, where erosion has carved potholes and pools into the limestone rock. An ideal route for a short outing to explore two iconic geological features of southern Bugey. Highlights: Cerveyrieu Waterfall (approx. 60 m high) and its overhanging viewpoint Thurignin Gorges and their giant’s kettles Views of Artemare, southern Bugey, and the Dent du Chat Good to know: The flow of the Séran River varies greatly depending on the season: impressive after snowmelt or heavy rains, almost nonexistent during summer droughts The waterfall is accessible only from above (no access to the base of the fall) The trail is passable, but watch out for slippery spots near the rocks, especially when walking with young children or pets
