Description

To mark the 2026 European Heritage Days, under the national theme ‘Heritage at Risk’, the theatre company La Pierre d’Amyon aims to bring to life a little-known figure from the intangible heritage of the Bugey and the Savoy region.
A fantastical creature from folk tales, the Sarvan is a being that is half-wild, half-tame, acting in turn as guardian of the hearth and the flocks, protector… or a formidable prankster. Passed down for generations through evening gatherings and storytelling, it is now part of a fragile intangible cultural heritage. On the forecourt of Flaxieu church, a troupe of street performers sets up to recount the Sarvan’s pranks. Blending theatre and puppetry, ancient tales and a contemporary perspective, this family-friendly show invites young and old alike to rediscover this figure from local folklore. In a festive, musical atmosphere, the Sarvan appears where least expected, sparking the imagination and prompting us to consider the place legends might still hold in today’s world. A fantastical and mischievous journey to bring this local heritage back to life, if only for the duration of a performance.
