From nostalgic melancholy to a colourful avant-garde, from an oppressive hierarchy to stirrings of individual emancipation, from enchanting nature to frenetic urban life, Japan is a country full of contrasts and contradictions.

He is the inspiration behind the repertoire of MEJIRO, a sextet that takes its name from a small, endemic Japanese passerine with a staccato yet melodious song, as well as from a district of Tokyo. Blending jazz, chamber music and folk, their compositions are full of contrasts and poetry.
