In the tradition of creative world music, USURES carries on the Occitan polyphonic tradition while placing it at the heart of contemporary music. Based in Saint-Étienne and the surrounding area, the collective reinvents a form of popular music rooted in the history of this industrial region. Driven by a desire to craft an original repertoire and give voice to the working-class heritage of Saint-Étienne, the group draws freely from the local repertoire, regional archives, its own convictions, and its imagination to write its own lyrics and create compelling music, enriched by the diverse influences of its members. The ten voices of Les Mécanos blend with drums and percussion to sing in French and Occitan about past and present struggles. Ten tracks inspired by traditional music tell a folk story woven from laments, rebellion, dance, and hope.
