Castle of Montveran

  • This magnificent castle was built in 1316 by Pierre de Luyrieu, high on a rock overlooking the town of Culoz. The castle has remained intact since it was first built except for the towers which were restored after the revolution.
    Serge Prokofiev and Henriette d'Angeville spent time there.

    Behold of Saxony defeated the Saracens from the Rock of Montveran in 1000.

    At a later date Montveran was restored.
