Glandieu Waterfall

This waterfall has water gushing out of more than 60 m high  is classified as a “Sensitive Natural Area”. In free access all the year, it is beautiful in different ways in all seasons.

Work on the Glandieu waterfall site.

Starting August 25, 2025, the Bugey-Sud community of communes will launch a major project to redevelop the Glandieu natural site, classified and labeled a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS) in the Ain department.

Objectives:
Secure access to the site and limit antisocial behavior.
Improve visitor reception conditions.
Enhance the natural and architectural heritage.
Revitalize the hamlet and support the local economy.

Main developments:
Creation of a secure promenade-belvedere with a view of the waterfall.
Partial rehabilitation of the former marble works: roof, gable, and development of an area for markets and events.
Security work on the cliffs (purges, fencing) to ensure everyone’s safety.

Projected work schedule:
September to October 2025: Cliff safety.
October 2025 to spring 2026: Landscaping and work on the building.

A remarkable photo spot throughout the year, the Glandieu waterfall is easy to access.

Two parking lots have been arranged outside the small village of Glandieu. It is not possible to park in the immediate vicinity of the waterfall.

A few minutes from the ViaRhôna cycling route that connects Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean sea following the Rhone river, Glandieu waterfall is an unmissable detour on this bicycle route!

To preserve it, swimming, picnicking and dogs are prohibited on site.

Hiking around the waterfall

Discover the waterfall of Glandieu during a hike or a bike ride:

  • The cycling loop along the water between the Rhone and Guiers is a bike loop with a length of 21 km practicable in hybrid bike, mountain bike, gravels starting from the water plan of Cuchet to Murs-et-Gelignieux. Riding largely on the ViaRhôna bike route, it follows the Rhone River in the Haut Rhone nature reserve as well as the Guiers to Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers.
  • The Water Trail (circuit de l’eau) is a 7 km hike between the village of Brégnier-Cordon and the hamlet of Glandieu. Short, but sporty, this walk offers several panoramic views of the Rhone and its nature reserve.

Quand on sème in Glandieu

At a stone’s throw from the Glandieu waterfall, the Quand on sème store has the productions of Géraldine Dunand’s farm and those of nearby producers.

In this store of local products, you will find fresh products (cheeses, cold cuts etc), fruit juices, cider, beer, oils and vinegar, flours, coffee, herbal teas and teas, spices, honey, saffron, coulis, foie gras and terrines.

Groceries, ice cream, drinks and coffee are available to take away or to consume on the spot, on the terrace in front of the store.
