Wooden path trail

A must-see natural site in Bugey, the Lavours marsh, at the foot of Grand Colombier, can be discovered thanks to a wooden path trail on stilts!
The marsh can be explored thanks to a trail on stilts accessible to people with reduced mobility of 1.2 km, marked out with interpretation panels and observation posts for birds.
The Maison du marais, a museum accessible for free in Aignoz, allows you to learn more about the fauna and flora of this natural space.

  • Possibility of visiting La Maison du Marais for free to learn even more about the richness of the fauna and flora of the natural reserve.
  • Access to the trail accessible to people with reduced mobility with an accompanying person.
  • Educational panels and two observatory points invite you to discover the beauty and richness of this Nature Reserve.
  • Many events are organized throughout the year by the Maison du Marais.
  • Enjoy La Ferme du Marais, restaurant, shop and visit of the farm right next to the reserve.

In addition to the walk, don’t forget to stop at La Maison du Marais. Museum space accessible for free at the start of the trail, it invites you to learn more about the fauna and flora of this natural space and is made up of exhibitions, an information point and a shop.

The waterfall of Clairefontaine

Hike to discover the historic center of Virieu-le-Grand by walking up the Arène River to the majestic Clairefontaine waterfall located in the forest. Unlike some other waterfalls, the flow of Clairefontaine never stops, even during periods of drought.

     

    To make the most of it
    • Accessible by train, the station of Virieu-le-Grand is on the railroad line Lyon – Geneva.
    • The waterfall of Clairefontaine flows all year round, even during periods of drought.
    • A visit to the historical district of Virieu-le-Grand. A former seigniory, the village has several historically listed residences.
    • An access to an orientation table with a nice view on the region, Grand Colombier and Mont Blanc.

    Enjoy a refreshing moment at the lake of Virieu-le-Grand after your walk.
    The lake of Virieu has a large beach, games for children, a food-truck and many picnic areas in the shade of trees. Swimming is supervised in July and August. Swimming is prohibited in the Clairefontaine waterfall.


    Boucle de l'Oreille

    Nature trail of 4.2 km promoting the biodiversity of this natural area and the  secrets of nature, species, plants that can be found along the way… You will meet 10 points of interest, materialized by wooden sculptures in the shape of mushrooms.

    To make the most of it
    • Find the 10 “side steps” to find along the course.
    • Discover the unsuspected properties of the wild flowers of the Plateau de Retord.
    • Treat yourself with a delicious mountain meal served at the Berthet restaurant.
    • Enjoy all the other summer activities (mountain bike rental, eMTB, electric all-terrain scooters, orienteering course, roller-skiing and biathlon initiation, forest baths, sheepfold visit, herd hike, wellness area, be…).

    The path of the stars

    of the Observatoire de la Lèbe

    Go on the path of the stars of the sky Observatory of La Lèbe.

    With the help of the notebook on sale in the offices of the Tourist Office and the Observatory of the Lèbe, find the clues left on the totems, solve the riddles to try to discover where these amazing travelers come from. (Only in French).

    To make the most of it

    A fun and educational walk, with free access, that will lead you to the observatory and its planetarium.
    This trail is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
    The accompanying booklet for the trail, designed by the Observatory team, includes 60 pages of riddles, charades, and questions, for which you will find the answers on totems along the trail.

    The path of the stars and its accompanying booklet were developed by the sky Observatoiry of la Lèbe. This exceptional place is entirely dedicated to the discovery of astronomy for all.
    All year round on reservation, the Observatoiry of la Lèbe welcomes you to try:
    Planetarium sessions, sun observations, observation evenings for all, family evenings, celestial legends, adult and children’s courses, etc.


    Le Golet au Loup

    Hiking circuit of 7.6 km in the South Bugey, following the course of the river Séran and gets you to discover:

    • Fierloz.
    • Cerveyrieu waterfall

      • The Fierloz, a 74-hectare limestone plateau with lapiaz formed 140 million years ago, labeled a Sensitive Natural Area by the Ain department
      • The panorama from the Virgin statue of the Fierloz.
      • Cerveyrieu waterfall, a spectacular waterfall with a landscaped lookout.
      • Enjoy local reknown gastronomy at the foot of the Grand Colombier and the Cerveyrieu waterfall!

      Mont de Cordon

      Short hike on the border between Ain and Isère offering a magnificent view of the Rhone River from the Mont de Cordon.

        • Views of the Alps on the way up.
        • The path and its prehistoric caves along the Rhone River.

        The Rothonne forest in Belley
