Tombeau de Pierre Boisson, Lieu-dit Les Echelles, 01300 Parves-et-Nattages
Discover the site and the amazing history of Pierre Boisson's tomb in the company of the people who restored it and keep it alive today.
Pierre Boisson was born on August 15, 1819, in Loisieux, Savoie, 8 km from Yenne, into a modest family. Little is known about his early life. He left the region by embarking on the Rhône, traveled extensively, and then settled in Mexico, where he became a dentist.

When he returned to Savoie in 1875, he struggled to reintegrate. His social success, open-mindedness, and membership in the Freemasons aroused suspicion and rejection. The Church refused him the right to be buried in Loisieux and then in Yenne, despite his promise to bequeath his fortune to the municipality.

He then turned to Nattages, which sold him a few acres on the left bank of the Rhône, opposite the Virgin of Chevru, at a place called “Les Échelles.” There, he built a small house, stone cisterns, and a tomb carved into the rock, designed to withstand the test of time...
