The Bugey Intergenerational University invites you to a lecture entitled ‘Les Sculptrices’ (Women Sculptors) by Jean-Marc Soulier at the Arlequin cinema.
The speaker will give an overview of the work of several female sculptors: each with their own unique journey, joys and sorrows, and a particular sensitivity that has enabled them to transform their experiences.
Artists are generally sensitive beings... Are there such marked differences between female and male artists?
Or is it rather the way in which the patriarchal system has regularly rendered women invisible, in all their roles, that is the problem?
Fortunately, a plethora of female artists, still too often ignored, are emerging from the shadows.
Exploring the careers of a few iconic modern sculptors will attempt to identify what truly makes sense in their artistic language and examine the specifically feminine contribution of their work.
Who is the speaker Jean-Marc Soulier:
Passionate about painting and especially sculpture, Jean-Marc Soulié presents exhibition commentary and lectures on the subject.
He is also an administrator at the Université Populaire d'Albertive.
