Created in 1993, the Brotherhood of "Fêlés du Grand Colombier" gathers about 2000 cyclos from around the world who have climbed by bike, in a single day, the Grand Colombier (1501 m) by 2, 3 or 4 of its access roads.

The Grand Colombier is not like other mountain passes. With gradients exceeding 20% in some places, four slopes as varied as they are demanding, and a breathtaking view of the Alps and Lake Bourget, the “Giant of Bugey” is sure to impress even the most seasoned cyclists. Founded in 1993 by the Cyclos du Plateau d’Hauteville, the Fêlés du Grand Colombier brotherhood has turned this challenge into a true institution of mountain biking. The idea? Climb the Grand Colombier via multiple routes in a single day. Two climbs and you become a “Member.” Three climbs? You’re a “Master.” Four faces? Welcome to the “Grand Masters”—a title that only about a hundred women have earned to date. For organizations seeking an extra dose of spirit, there’s the famous Défi Bugiste: four ascents of the Grand Colombier via its four slopes, plus two ascents of the Col de la Biche—totaling 208 kilometers and over 7,000 meters of elevation gain. An adventure reserved for the most daring. Since the brotherhood was founded, nearly 2,400 cyclists—including 170 women—have joined, coming from all over France, as well as Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and even Australia. Here, the feat is measured as much by elevation gain as by camaraderie: “a sporting challenge with a tourist dimension,” as its co-founder likes to put it.
