Génissiat Dam

Company open to the public in Injoux-Génissiat
  • Europe’s first major hydroelectric dam. The construction began in 1936 and it was finished in 1948. Things to see: the surface spillway on the right bank. This is a long channel ending with a spectacular “ski jump”.

  • CNR offers an interactive and educational guided tour that combines hydraulic art, history and technology. There are some movies, models and objects that will help you to discover the great adventure of the river Rhone as well as all the different renewable energies such as the water, the wind and the sun that CNR has been developping.

You have to wear flat and closed shoes.
You have to bring your Identity Card as they will check it out before getting in.
  • Tips
Do not miss the long canal on the right side of the bank where the water is evacuated. It ends up in an impressive drop called the "ski jump".
