The Aguascalientes Space is hosting an exhibition entitled ‘Dans l'ombre du printemps’ (In the Shadow of Spring), featuring paintings by artist Martin Laquet.
Martin Laquet was born in 1976. He studied literature and then fine arts in Lyon.
For him, painting and poetry are two sides of the same coin. He lives and works in Ambérieu-en-Bugey, in the Ain department.
Here is what poet Lionel Lathuile wrote about Martin Laquet's paintings:
"When faced with Martin Laquet's paintings, one hesitates to find the right words, stammers, then falls silent and listens. We literally listen to his paintings, where the act of painting continues to rub between each blink of our eyelids – where the gesture extends, beyond our open or closed eyes, the sketch of an intimacy that we approach with the brushed forms.
And enriched by this inhabited silence, we look again, we spot the lines and sections that take on the appearance of a setting, we name the objects depicted, we embrace the moving surfaces and shadows that unify the composition, but we feel, as we take stock, that each form is named with us."
